10 sentence stories, At the Docks
Sep. 15th, 2019 01:45 amThere had been reports of some beast prowling about the harbor at night. Many thought it was a large, feral dog. But of the few eyewitnesses left alive, they all swore it was some kind of huge mountain cat. How a wildcat so large could get into the city, and why, wasn’t yet known.
Extra patrols were sent out to look for the creature after sunset, since whatever it was, it never struck while it was light out. Near the end of the hour of the boar, there was a yell, and many of the citizen patrols and a few samurai went to investigate.
They found one of the younger citizen patrols near the docks, the one who had yelled. He was shaking, staring at some crates and claimed he had seen a monster just as it hid among them.
One of the lower ranked samurai turned to the one heading the search to see if they should search the crates, and stifled his own shout. The lead samurai lay dead, head at an odd angle and deep tooth marks through his neck.

Takumi skittered across the courtyard of the samurai's mansion on paws darker than the moonless night. Whatever party was being held here was winding down and the master of the estate would likely retire to his chambers soon.
Takumi could wait a little longer to be sure his target would be mostly alone. No need to mingle innocent blood with that of the guilty.
It was the hour of the ox, at least halfway through by Takumi's count, when the samurai's second son, who carried the same scent as his father, came to the master's chamber to sleep. The humans' habit of sending off their lords and said lords' heirs and wives to the capital had slipped Takumi's mind. But he had come to enact his grudge and found a fitting target in any case.
The young samurai was not fully asleep when Takumi's fangs found his neck, ending him swiftly and quietly. Takumi had drunk his fill of the tainted blood, jumped to the roof to clean himself and left before anyone found what had happened.

I really should figure out how the cat youkai write things when necessary. Most of the older cats who learned how to write would have been living among the Heian court at some point, so I'm leaning toward something more like hiragana. But to complicate that, they have some sounds not found in Japanese, so they would either not spell things exactly as they sound, or would have symbols that derive from other sources. Plus, they would need both a version they write with brush and ink as well as one they "write" by scratching.
And to complicate things further, some younger cats (2 or less centuries old but older than 70 for sure, at the time of my story) would have been around in the Warring States period and may even have been recognized as samurai. This would mean they would have been expected to know and write kanji as well. So this would add a layer of kanji use over the use of whatever writing the cats make for themselves.

Updating characters
May. 11th, 2019 07:56 amSince I introduced my youkai characters, they were originally going into a modern setting. But I'm starting to redesign them for Edo period, specifically Nagasaki (tho this might change if certain aspects don't work for the story). I'm going to keep the modern versions I have, since I think it would be easier to rp them, but I will also post up the official story versions of all of them. I haven't really rped on here yet but if anyone would be interested in starting anything let me know.

Dec. 8th, 2018 11:14 amSo I already have a bit about Urbano and his universe, so I should probably work on adding more of the characters from that story verse as it would be easy to just do that although I don't know when that'll be. But maybe around Tuesday once my couple days at work this week are done. The next person introduced in detail will probably be one of the Savellis but maybe I'll add some details about old Cozmas of Larenti.
I am a constantly tired cat thing, but on that note I should definitely bring over my youkai characters from my nsfw rp tumblr soon since I plan to outright delete it on or before the 17th. I'll probably start with some of the nicer cat youkai and work up to the ones who kidnap and murder and the like. Plus I still need to decide what humans will be involved in all of this, and ... ironically I really fail at plain vanilla humans anymore. Gotta get working on that.
