I made a character named Rowan for a tabletop campaign with my hubby and a few other folks, but the game fell through. It was based in the Dresden Files universe. If you’ve read the books, then awesome. If not, it’s a series about a wizard/private eye named Harry Dresden who lives in more-or-less modern Chicago and deals with supernatural BS and trying not to get in trouble with the police or the like. There are issues with the writing, especially in the early books, but it gets better and the world building is really solid.
Anyway! Rowan was a changeling (half fae) who grew up traveling a lot while he grew up with his mom, but they’d always head back to visit his dad in Northern California during the summers. His dad was a male dryad and part of the Seelie court and he eventually learned about this from his father as well.
Changelings in this universe have to make a choice to become human or join the fae, and in the meantime they occupy a sort of middle ground. They have some abilities from their fae side, and things like cold iron don’t bother them AS much, and there are restrictions they have to follow like the fae (never telling outright lies, being bound by promises etc). Rowan likes where he is and doesn’t plan to decide either way for as long as possible.
Unlike a wizard, whose magic would cause electronics to go haywire or break, a changeling’s magic oddly doesn’t conflict with technology, but Rowan tends not to use a lot anyway.
Being part dryad, Rowan has an affinity for plants, and if he’s around them long enough, flowering plants will bloom even if the season isn’t right. He can make it happen faster if he focuses on it. He’s also a skilled climber, and in his travels he’s become pretty good at navigating through cities and the countryside alike. He’s also incredibly stealthy and has sticky fingers, and a tendency to “borrow” clothing from people he stays with, which has gotten him in trouble with some and oddly endeared him with others.

Personality
Teagan is very opinionated when it comes to things he’s interested in or knowledgeable about, but is generally a quiet and withdrawn troll. He can come off as confident or even cocky when met one-on-one, and does fine when he’s traveling around the city nearest his hive, when most trolls around him don’t really pay him attention. But in social situations with more than about 5 other trolls, he gets more and more nervous. This is true whether or not he knows the other trolls or if they accept him being hemoanon. Most of his hobbies either keep him in his hive, or keep him out in the wilds where he’s less likely to meet other trolls. He does have a lowblood ability, but prefers not to use it.
Body type
Technically ectomorph. Thin but athletic from training in martial arts, dancing and a cheap but relatively healthy/balanced diet, even if he didn’t always have enough to eat when he was younger.
Random trivia
His long jacket was a gift from his moirail, Akhena Iurixs. It’s all black on the outside and the lining is in her blood color. It’s also probably the nicest piece of clothing he owns.
He still has makeup from his troll goth stage that helps cover if he blushes at least.
Selective mutism when tired or extremely emotional, good or bad. In the situation of slow build up, before getting to the point of being non-verbal, it gets harder for him to express himself verbally.
Can fall asleep almost anywhere, but only if he’s actually feeling tired. Nightmares don’t tend to affect him so much, but he still gets them without sopor.
Most likely to go grimdark.
He has a tattoo of his ex-kismesis’s symbol (satanic cross/alchemical symbol for sulfur) on his left arm in navy, and a brand of Matrin’s symbol on his lower left ribs, near his grubscars.
Opportunistic cannibal. If he kills another troll, or finds one near death, he’s as likely to bring them back to his hive to butcher as any other animal he might hunt. However, he doesn’t go out of his way to specifically hunt trolls.
I'll probably start posting bios of my fantrolls over here starting Thursday. First off, because I don't even want to check my own blog until then and also just because I want to do some updating on several of them and after work brain fog does not help that process.

This will include world building posts as well as character info. They are completely separate from Urbano's universe. Ironically, I haven't decided if their world is more like a modern world with hidden magic or a "mythic past" where people would sort of know about youkai. I might even have two AUs for this, so I will try to keep as much of the info for these characters "period neutral" as it were. But there are going to be some anachronisms in the past version, since it's not set in any specific real life time period, and even if it were, I feel that history is a weak point of mine even if I enjoy studying it.
That said, some of the youkai have inherently nsfw aspects (not specifically sexual, but covering a wide range), so while many are NOT, and even the characters with nsfw aspects will not always be involved in nsfw content, I will be marking posts about this universe with a general warning filter and people may ask to be invited into or taken out of as they wish. Any posts specifically containing nsfw material will be tagged with content warnings and placed under age restrictions

Dec. 12th, 2018 12:06 pmOne that includes a basic about and links to specific character info, especially if I seriously start using this account for writing and rp. I guess it's just a matter of not knowing what I don't know about dreamwidth and what stuff I would need to link and what would be easily found. And how much I want to write about myself in general.
Like some of the folks following me here know me rather well from elsewhere, while some of you are completely new acquaintances. So I suppose if anyone with a bit more knowledge about how dreamwidth works, would like to comment with what I should (or should not) include in an about and character info pages, I'd be more than happy for the suggestions.
I am a bit late on getting more character info up. Part of that was a busy day yesterday that I'm still somewhat recovering from, and another is excitement at receiving some new resin crafting supplies, including a UV light so I don't have to worry about the weather messing up my craft plans.

Dec. 8th, 2018 11:14 amSo I already have a bit about Urbano and his universe, so I should probably work on adding more of the characters from that story verse as it would be easy to just do that although I don't know when that'll be. But maybe around Tuesday once my couple days at work this week are done. The next person introduced in detail will probably be one of the Savellis but maybe I'll add some details about old Cozmas of Larenti.
I am a constantly tired cat thing, but on that note I should definitely bring over my youkai characters from my nsfw rp tumblr soon since I plan to outright delete it on or before the 17th. I'll probably start with some of the nicer cat youkai and work up to the ones who kidnap and murder and the like. Plus I still need to decide what humans will be involved in all of this, and ... ironically I really fail at plain vanilla humans anymore. Gotta get working on that.

Personality: Very insecure at first glance, except regarding alchemy. Actually somewhat snarky when he’s comfortable with someone, unless he has good reason not to be. Tends to cling to people he likes, especially in unfamiliar situations. Excitable when his medications are working properly.
Likes: Plants and most animals, tea, short walks in the morning (if it’s not too cold), pomegranates
Dislikes: Fish (actually a bit of a phobia), strenuous activities for long periods
I'm more used to doing quick bios for characters so that's what I started with, but here's some extra background about him and his universe:
Urbano Valenzi was born into a large peasant family and would have likely remained in his home village or one nearby if it hadn't been for him becoming sickly in his childhood, and the local hedge witch Elesa taking a shine to him. Despite being very young, he picked up the basics of herbalism quickly by working with her and learning simple treatments for his own illness. While he was never what most would call healthy, he was able to help others in his village, and working with Elesa made for less of a burden on his family, who knew he'd likely never be able to do physical work like his siblings.
It was decided that he should find an apprenticeship as a physician or alchemist once he was old enough, and if he lived to the proper age. Elesa wrote letters to find Urbano a mentor, since she had connections to people in the alchemists guild. Cozmas of Larenti, a well known alchemist himself, took an interest in Urbano both because he was an obviously bright child but also because Cozmas recognized Urbano's condition. Cozmas kept in contact with Urbano for a few years, at first through Elesa and then directly until Urbano was old enough to officially be Cozmas's apprentice. Even before then, Cozmas gave Urbano suggestions on how to improve his diet in order to remain as healthy as possible. Even then there was some concern his health would decline on the trip from his hometown to where Cozmas lived.
Even aside from his illness, there were reasons why Urbano's apprenticeship was unusual. First, the apprenticeship of an alchemist was longer than that of most trades, and depending who they apprenticed under they might be learning anything from astrology, to the workings of the human body, to the compositions and relations of metals, to botany, to theology and many other subjects. Most alchemists focus on a couple areas of study, and that study is extremely indepth, although generalists do also exist. Urbano with Cozmas's guidance focused very heavily on the alchemy of biological systems (medicine, botany, etc), with some astrology (one of Cozmas's areas of focus) thrown in for good measure, plus some basics for other areas of study. What made this strange was actually the breadth of his learning while still having a specific focus AND that he finished his apprenticeship at 21, a very young age by alchemist standards.
At the beginning of his story, Cozmas is contacting prospective employers for him. This would usually be nobles or rich traders who are able to more or less subsidize his research. Since Urbano had already put much of his attention into finding treatments or a cure for his own condition, that was one of the details that Cozmas would address in the query letters, as well as what exactly could be covered as far as budgeting for supplies and the like.
In a normal case, an alchemist would find an employer who wants them to focus on a specific project and allow some time and resources for free research, or to be allowed to research at will, but pay and amenities would usually be less. However in Urbano's case, since he's recognized as being a bit of a prodigy and because his research would directly affect his own health and well-being, and hence anyone who hired him would be best served by letting him research into that, he was able to be employed as a journeyman alchemist in a very rich noble household, the Savellis of Etalon, as long as he also acted as the household's physician and any side discoveries were - lets say - licensed to the Savelli family to develop or sell as they wish. So overall, a pretty sweet deal it would seem.

Decissions, decissions
Dec. 4th, 2018 12:04 pmI'm debating whether I should introduce my story ocs or my fandom ocs here first. I'll be using them all here regardless, but I feel I should start one or the other.
As far as fandom characters, I have some fantrolls from Homestuck and some D&D characters.
For characters that are in my own stories, I have some characters in a more traditional fantasy verse with alchemists, one that's Asian fantasy with a lot of youkai characters (somewhat more nsfw plots there, and at least some posts about that one will be age restricted), and a few characters that are from a scifantasy verse, but I can make them either purely fantasy or purely scifi for roleplay purposes.
I know I don't have a big following here yet, but I feel like this will decide the direction of this blog for the future.
